Hydrogen peroxide slowly decomposes and releases oxygen; a sealed, unvented container can build pressure.

Store cool and out of sunlight, within the temperature range on the supplier’s safety data sheet.

Keep away from incompatible materials: organic materials, flammables, reducing agents, and metals such as iron, copper and their salts, which catalyse rapid decomposition.

Never return unused liquid to the stock container, and never mix it with other chemicals.

Do not let it soak into combustible materials such as wood, paper or cloth; when they dry, they can ignite.

Use the generator’s intended filling method — sealed cartridges or a closed transfer — rather than pouring from open containers.

Follow the supplier’s safety data sheet and local rules for transport, which classify concentrated hydrogen peroxide as an oxidiser.

Personal protective equipment

Eyes: chemical splash goggles, plus a face shield where splashing is likely. A calibrated low-range sensor must show the concentration is below the site release limit — commonly 1 ppm — at representative points, including where vapour lingers. Why the last ppm take longest, and how to shorten aeration, is covered in aeration and residual hydrogen peroxide.

Spills and first aid

Small spills of liquid: wearing PPE, dilute with plenty of water and absorb with inert, non-combustible absorbent.
